A quick note on dark!Hamish for those of you who are new to my blog

He is not Hamish. Not really. He is a split personality formed from the years of abuse he received from Matthew. He has no morals, no judgement other than how much he likes you and how entertaining you are.

It does not matter who you are, if you’re related, how old you are. He will hurt you if you make him angry. The only line he seems to draw is he will not kill. 

The only person who manages to force him away before he’s done with his fun is Peri. So far, he hasn’t come out to bother the John and Sherlock in the main story line, but that’s soon to change. [Britt, Sara, be prepared. This is happening very very soon.]

Headcanon: Peri, Hamish, and Matt named the skull when they were younger. But what did they name him~?

They all named it something different. So that they each had their own friend in it. 

5 year old Hamish, knowing nothing of his parents past, named it James, ironically enough. And James was Hamish’s first and only friend for a long time.

Hamish Headcanon 013

Until he was about 9 years old, Hamish had a slight lisp.

Before Hamish and Alex met, Hamish was in a ‘dark place’, as he usually says. 

Peri and Matthew had just left for Uni in America. He’d had the big fight with Matt, that led to the two of them wanting to forget each other. That was also around the time Diana left for boarding school. Of course, John and Sherlock were gone as often as usual for cases. Hamish was on his own for the most part. 

He tried a lot of stupid things that he won’t admit to usually. He cut himself, a few times. Never enough to leave scars in visible places, he knew better than that. He got into parties, where he tried alcohol for the first time. And drugs. The cutting didn’t last. He liked the pain too much and it scared him. When he saw what the drugs were doing to Alex’s mom, he dropped everything else right away.

That’s when he picked up smoking. It was something he could easily hide, at first, before it became bad. He could occasionally slip one or two from his father, and he knew a few upper classmen who had no qualms in selling them to him if he paid decent. And Alex, while he didn’t like it, liked it better than the other things he did, and usually didn’t say anything. 

But that’s the problem. He stopped it all for Alex. If Alex leaves, he’s scared he’ll fall right back into those things, because he won’t have something to stop him. He cares for Alex, he loves him, and he’ll give up anything for him.

5.Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)

His room isn’t immaculate, but it is tidy. Typically, his school uniform his tossed over the chair at his desk, his bag is dumped just inside the door, half of it spilling out. Sometimes there are a few items of clothing left by the bed, which is almost never made. His current tinkering project is usually in the middle of the floor. His desk is covered in a few papers and books. 

He keeps himself cleaner than his room. Showers every day, new clothes. The only time this changes is when he’s in withdrawal or fighting with Alex. He gets lazy and tends to do nothing but lay in bed or on the sofa.

6. Eating habits and sample daily menu

He’s as bad as Sherlock at eating. He won’t deny food when someone offers it, but he forgets to on his own. He eats breakfast almost every morning because John hands him something. He’ll eat lunch if Alex makes him. Dinner only happens when they eat all together, which isn’t very often.

His favorite thing to eat is pasta. He won’t eat mushrooms. At all. And he won’t just pick them out, he won’t eat it if mushrooms have come into contact with it.

7. Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time

Tinkering with things. Taking them apart and trying to put them back together to figure out how they work. He can spend hours playing taking apart and putting together the same object without realizing time has gone by.

15. Biggest and smallest short term goal?

Long term goal right now is University. He’s not too sure what he wants to go for, but he feels he doesn’t have the choice to not go, now that Peri and Matt are gone. 

Short term goal is to get through the summer without a cigarette 

28. Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy?

Jamie is definitely his best friend when you don’t count Alex. They’ve been there for each for years. Hamish gets protective over him when people mess with him, especially Jim. 

He doesn’t see himself as having an enemy. The closest thing would be his older brother Matthew.

36. What makes them feel guilty?

Thinking of the shit he’s put his parents through these last few years. Cigarettes.  Knowing he isn’t good for Alex in the long run. The part of him that says he doesn’t and can’t love Alex. He’s incredibly guilty about the whole dark side of him.

Hamish was got his very own teacup when he was 7 years old. It’s beige, with tiny hand painted mushrooms all around it, and he picked it out himself. He’d seen it in a thrift shop window and had begged his parents for it for weeks before they gave in. 

He still uses it today. The handle has been glued back on more times than he can remember, and there’s a chip a quarter of the way around, right in his line of sight when he drinks. At first, it bothered him terribly. He’d bought pain nearly the same color and glazed it over so it wasn’t as obnoxious, but it still stood out. The paint had dried much darker than the rest of the cup itself. 

If someone else tries to use his cup, he will freak out on them. The first time he caught John using it, he plucked it from his dads hands, dumped it in the sink, washed it, and hid it in his room.

Hamish Headcanon 012

Hamish pulls the coffee line on people because its something he knows works nearly every time. He got the idea from his parents. When he was younger, when his parents were spending too much time on work and not enough with each other, John would pretend he’d forgotten Sherlock alltogether and invite him out to coffee “to get to know each other.”

Hamish babysits Bonnie occasionally. They always, always end up watching My Little Pony at least once.

Secretly, Hamish enjoys it, but he won’t watch it unless he’s with her.

Hamish Headcanon 010

When Matt and Peri left for America, Hamish and Matt had a nasty fight. There was a bit of punching, but it was mostly words. The last thing Matt said to him was “I’m glad to be leaving. It’ll be easy to forget about you over there.”

The words stuck to him when he went to say goodbye to Peri, and he was almost panicking. They weren’t really close, and that made it worse. It would be just as easy for her to forget as Matt said it was. He won’t tell anyone about it, but he clung to her, nearly in tears, begging her not to forget him. He felt childish, but he needed to know that she wouldn’t forget him too.
